Fujian Unveils Giant Wood Carving Celebrating Grand Canal Heritage

In a spectacular display of artistry and cultural pride, Fujian Province has unveiled a giant wood carving commemorating the 10th anniversary of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal's inscription as a UNESCO World Heritage site.

The ambitious project, spearheaded by Zheng Chunhui, a representative of the National Intangible Cultural Heritage project \"Putian wood carving,\" began in April 2023. Over five years, the team meticulously crafted a monumental piece titled \"The Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal.\"

Constructed from nine camphor trees, each over 500 years old, the wood carving vividly portrays the thriving canal transportation and the rich cultural landscapes of the cities along its banks. This masterpiece not only highlights traditional craftsmanship but also celebrates the enduring legacy of one of the world's most significant waterways.

Visitors are invited to witness this breathtaking artwork, which stands as a testament to Fujian's dedication to preserving and honoring its cultural heritage.
