Gaza Health Crisis Escalates as Truce with Hamas Nears End

As the sixth day of the extended truce between Israel and Hamas approaches its potential end, Gaza faces a worsening health crisis. The director-general of the World Health Organization (WHO) has highlighted that overcrowding and shortages of food, water, sanitation, and basic hygiene are accelerating the spread of diseases in the region.

Negotiators are striving to secure further extensions of the truce to facilitate the release of more hostages from Gaza. In the first five days of the current ceasefire, Hamas has released 81 hostages, predominantly women and children. Meanwhile, Israel has freed 180 Palestinians from prison, mostly women and minors who were detained without charges.

The humanitarian situation in Gaza remains dire, with essential services strained and the health sector under immense pressure. The international community continues to monitor the developments closely, hoping for a sustainable resolution that ensures the safety and well-being of all affected individuals.
