The heads of five zodiac beasts – the ox, tiger, monkey, pig, and horse – are now on display at Yuanmingyuan, the Old Summer Palace, in Beijing. Running until October 29, this exhibition marks the unprecedented reunification of the first four copper statues, collected by the Poly Art Museum, with the horse head after a 163-year separation.
The five bronze-cast heads are part of the original set of twelve sculptures originally ripped from the imperial water fountain in Yuanmingyuan. This exhibition highlights a unique fusion of Oriental zodiac culture and Western-style architecture, offering visitors a glimpse into the rich historical tapestry of the palace.
