UNWTO Summit in Samarkand Focuses on Sustainable Tourism Investments

The United Nations World Tourism Organization's (UNWTO) 25th General Assembly kicked off on October 16 in the historic city of Samarkand, Uzbekistan. Over five days, the event has attracted high-level delegates and ministers from more than 150 nations, all gathered to discuss the future of global tourism.

Dubbed the \"shining pearl of the Silk Road,\" Samarkand offers a rich tapestry of 2,500 years of history, making it a fitting backdrop for conversations centered on the revival and sustainability of tourism. A significant emphasis this year is on diversifying tourism investments to ensure long-term growth and resilience.

Central to the agenda is the Belt and Road Initiative, which continues to facilitate trade and communication across regions. At the heart of this year's forum, CGTN's Zheng Junfeng has been actively engaging with ministers to explore strategic solutions that balance the needs of people, the planet, and prosperity.

As the global tourism industry navigates post-pandemic recovery, the discussions in Samarkand aim to set a sustainable path forward, leveraging historical insights and modern innovations to create a thriving, inclusive tourism sector for the future.
