Jingmai Mountain’s Ancient Tea Villages Named UNESCO Heritage Site

The cultural landscape of old tea forests on Jingmai Mountain in Pu'er, southwest the Chinese mainland's Yunnan Province, has been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list. The nomination was approved Sunday at the 45th session of UNESCO's World Heritage Committee underway in Riyadh.

The newly recognized heritage site comprises five ancient tea forests, nine historic villages, and three protective partition forests. These elements collectively highlight the region's rich history and the preservation efforts that have maintained its unique tea plantations, traditional villages, and diverse cultural heritage over centuries.

Visitors to Jingmai Mountain can explore these time-honored landscapes, experiencing firsthand the enduring legacy of tea cultivation and village life that has been safeguarded through dedicated conservation practices. This recognition by UNESCO not only honors the area's historical significance but also promotes sustainable tourism and cultural appreciation among global travelers.
