Kazakhstan-China Pipeline: Powering Growth Through 1,500 km

In December 2010, Kazakhstan embarked on its largest natural gas pipeline project since gaining independence, stretching nearly 1,500 kilometers. Starting from Beineu, the pipeline winds through the Gobi Desert, featuring six compressor stations and three metering stations, before reaching Shymkent, the nation’s third-largest city.

At Shymkent, the pipeline connects with the China-Central Asia Natural Gas Pipeline, directing gas eastward toward Horgos in China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. From Horgos, it integrates with China’s West-to-East Natural Gas Pipeline, ensuring the distribution of natural gas to key cities and regions across China, including Shanghai, Fuzhou, and Hong Kong.

CGTN recently visited one of the compressor stations in Kazakhstan and the Horgos metering station in China, highlighting the critical roles these facilities play in maintaining the flow and integrity of this vital energy corridor.
