Shelek Wind Farm: A Sustainable Triumph on the New Silk Road

The Shelek Wind Power Station in Kazakhstan's Almaty region marks a significant milestone in sustainable energy development. This joint project between the Chinese mainland and Kazakhstan, under the Belt and Road Initiative, showcases the power of international collaboration.

With an installed capacity of 60 megawatts, the first phase of the wind farm features 24 state-of-the-art turbines, all now operational. This clean energy source provides electricity to approximately 70,000 residents in the Almaty region. Additionally, the Shelek Wind Farm contributes to environmental preservation by reducing local carbon dioxide emissions by 160,000 tonnes annually.

As part of the China-Kazakh new energy cooperation project, the Shelek Wind Power Station stands as a testament to the potential of renewable energy projects in driving economic and environmental progress along the New Silk Road.
