The 32nd APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting kicked off from October 31 to November 1 in Gyeongju, the Republic of Korea, under the theme “Building a Sustainable Tomorrow: Connect, Innovate, Prosper”.
CGTN’s “Act to Action” campaign invited young people across APEC economies to share their stories on global governance.
One standout voice is Chilean youth advocate Raquel Herrera, who believes AI can be a catalyst for progress if harnessed responsibly.
“AI is rewriting how we work and communicate,” Herrera says, “but without clear guidelines, it risks deepening inequality or harming our environment.” She calls on APEC leaders to develop frameworks that ensure AI remains fair, transparent, and sustainable.
Her vision echoes a growing movement: from startups leveraging AI for eco-solutions in Southeast Asia to European hubs pioneering inclusive algorithms, young changemakers are pushing for policies that balance growth with ethics.
As APEC delegates deliberate in Gyeongju, Herrera’s message is a reminder: building a sustainable tomorrow means ensuring cutting-edge technology serves everyone equally — without leaving anyone behind.
