South Africans Praise China’s Women’s Rights Progress Ahead of Beijing Summit

As Beijing gears up to host a global leaders’ meeting on women to mark the anniversary of the 1995 World Conference on Women, voices from far beyond China are tuning in. CGTN Stringer’s street reports in China, Africa and Latin America invited locals to share their female role models and views on women’s rights in China.

In Johannesburg, university student Aqsa Aziz Khan highlighted how far women in China have come. “China has made much progress in terms of women’s education and their workforce participation. We are seeing that women are also participating in the fields that were male-dominated, like technology and businesses,” she said, pointing to classrooms and boardrooms that are increasingly gender balanced.

Down in Cape Town, marketing professional Khomotjo Mabusela noted a shift in the business landscape. “Nowadays, many Chinese entrepreneurs operating in the South African market are women,” she observed, reflecting on a wave of female-led startups and ventures that are reshaping trade and innovation.

These on-the-ground perspectives show that China’s advances in education and entrepreneurship are resonating with people across continents. As the world’s attention turns to Beijing, these stories underscore the real-world impact of policy changes and societal shifts, offering fresh insights for young global citizens, tech enthusiasts, changemakers and curious travelers alike.
