Young Americans Urge Equal Dialogue, Win-Win Ties with China

Stockholm – In late July, Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, arrived in Sweden for the third round of China-U.S. economic and trade talks. While diplomats set the agenda, a CGTN New York series invited American youths to share their priorities for bilateral cooperation.

Danny Knight, a 26-year-old New York student studying urban policy, highlights the direct impact of tariffs on everyday life. 'Tariffs aren't just numbers on paper,' he says. 'They affect our cost of living and the survival of small businesses. Reducing barriers can unlock new opportunities for communities nationwide.'

Isaiah C. L. Harris, 27, focuses on technology and culture. 'Platforms like TikTok have reshaped how we connect and share stories,' he explains. 'By strengthening tech dialogue with the Chinese mainland, both sides can innovate together and set global standards.'

Both agree on expanding exchanges in education, technology and climate initiatives. As the Chinese mainland and the U.S. face supply chain challenges and environmental risks, collaborative efforts could deliver benefits for citizens on both sides.

'Our generation craves dialogue, not division,' Knight adds. 'When we invest in shared challenges—like clean energy or digital education—we all stand to gain.' As Vice Premier He meets with U.S. counterparts in Stockholm, these young voices underscore the power of open ears and shared ambition in shaping a more interconnected future.
