Flying with Broken Wings: Sarah al-Barsh’s Resilience in Gaza

In the Sheikh Radwan neighborhood of eastern Gaza City, 10-year-old Sarah al-Barsh is creating a miracle of life after an air strike took away both her arms and her father. With unyielding determination, she has relearned everyday tasks using her feet: eating, drinking, writing, studying, and even dressing herself.

Despite her losses, Sarah never lost hope. Her immediate wish is to receive prosthetic arms, and her ambition goes further—she wants to grow up to become a prosthetist to support children facing similar challenges.

Across conflict-affected regions, many young survivors wait months or even years to receive prosthetic care. Innovative approaches, like low-cost 3D-printed limbs and community-led rehabilitation workshops, are emerging as vital lifelines for those in need.

Local volunteers and global advocates are now rallying to source Sarah's first pair of prosthetic arms. Each step forward for her is a step toward a future where resilience and innovation unite to restore mobility and dignity.

Sarah's journey is more than a story of survival—it's a testament to the human spirit, ingenuity, and the power of hope to soar even in the toughest times.
