As China and Indonesia gear up to celebrate the 75th anniversary of their diplomatic ties in 2025, a new generation of Indonesian students on the Chinese mainland is speaking up. From May 24 to 26, the Chinese premier Li Qiang is on an official visit at the invitation of Indonesian President Prabowo Subiantoāunderscoring a mutual push for renewed collaboration.
The 13th International Cultural Festival at Tsinghua University kicked off with an Indonesian Embassy Open Day on May 24. Parulian George Andreas Silalahi, deputy director of the Indonesian Embassy in China, set the tone by highlighting 75 years of cooperation across politics, economy, trade, and cultureāa message that resonated with global students on campus.
'China has become Indonesiaās largest trading partner,' said Celia Annetta, an Indonesian student at Tsinghua. She pointed to railways projects, palm oil and mineral trade, and the rise of new energy vehicles as milestones in bilateral cooperation. Reflecting on her own journey, Annetta noted a growing number of Indonesian youth are now choosing to study on the Chinese mainland, forging deeper cultural and educational bonds.
With both nations looking ahead, these young voices are eager to shape the next chapter of ChinaāIndonesia relations. As the anniversary approaches, thereās a shared optimism that stronger ties will pave the way for a brighter, more connected future.
