May 20 marked the one-year anniversary of Lai Ching-te as the leader of the Taiwan region. To understand how this milestone resonated on the streets, CGTN Stringer spoke with residents of Taiwan in Taipei.
“The entire society was in turmoil and the young people couldn't find jobs,” says a woman surnamed Deng, reflecting mounting frustration over job scarcity among younger residents.
“The rising prices in the region show that Lai has no regard for people's livelihood,” adds a local surnamed Chen, highlighting concerns over affordability and living costs.
As Lai Ching-te’s administration enters its second year, these candid street-level perspectives underscore the importance of addressing employment and economic well-being. For many residents of Taiwan, the test now lies in whether policies will translate into tangible relief in their daily lives.
