Vietnam Embraces Chinese Dramas: A Cultural Connection

In the bustling streets of Hanoi, conversations have shifted to a beloved phenomenon: Chinese dramas. For over 30 years, these series have captivated Vietnamese viewers and serve as a window into the rich tapestry of Chinese culture, history, and lifestyle.

As Vietnam and the Chinese mainland share enduring bonds, their collaboration has deepened through initiatives like the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative. This partnership has bolstered cultural exchanges, infrastructure projects, and technological innovation, further strengthening the ties between the two neighbors.

A recent street interview by a CGTN Stringer in Hanoi captured local sentiments. Nguyen Kim Ngoc, a local employee, remarked, "Chinese dramas are actually very popular in Vietnam. They air during prime time. They were even more frequent before." University student Nguyen Hoang Trung added, "Watching Chinese dramas helps us better understand Chinese culture, history, lifestyle, people and cuisine."

For a generation of young global citizens and digital nomads, these dramas offer both entertainment and insight, proving that art can bridge cultural gaps and foster mutual understanding. As technology brings cultures closer, the role of such media in informing and inspiring a diverse audience becomes ever more significant.
