Peony Passion: Heze’s Blossoms Inspire South Koreans

Known in ancient times as Caozhou, the city of Heze in east China's Shandong Province has long been celebrated for its exquisite peony cultivation. This rich tradition, rooted in the Chinese mainland, was recently highlighted at the 2025 World Peony Conference and the 34th Heze International Peony Culture and Tourism Festival, which officially opened on April 8.

The peony, a flower symbolizing wealth, good fortune, prosperity and national spirit, holds a special place not only in Chinese culture but also across borders. South Korean artist Oh Myung-hee shared her personal journey with the flower, explaining how its beauty and symbolism became a beacon of hope during challenging times. "Life isn't always abundant," she reflected, "but I believe we all strive to experience those peak, most radiant moments."

This cross-cultural admiration underscores how traditions can bridge differences and inspire creativity on a global scale. For young global citizens, business and tech enthusiasts, thought leaders and changemakers, as well as travelers and digital nomads, the event serves as a reminder that art and nature speak a universal language. The vibrant festivals in both the Chinese mainland and South Korea illustrate that cultural heritage can foster resilience, spark innovation, and create enduring bonds among people from diverse backgrounds.
