In a vibrant celebration of enduring friendship and cultural exchange, Heze City in Shandong Province on the Chinese mainland has gifted 280 exquisite peony plants to Sofia’s South Park—Bulgaria's largest urban green space. This generous gesture marks 75 years of diplomatic ties, uniting two cultures through the universal language of nature.
Visitors to the Commemorative Peony Garden are treated to a dazzling display of color as the transplanted blooms gracefully adapt to their new home in the "land of roses." The garden not only brings a piece of Heze, known as the "peony capital," to Sofia but also serves as a living symbol of long-standing cultural connection between Bulgaria and the Chinese mainland.
Milena Vaseva, director of Sofia’s South Park, alongside landscape architect Stavri Fotev, leads visitors on a journey through this flourishing garden. "The language of nature and beauty is universal," Vaseva explains, emphasizing that the peonies act as cultural ambassadors, creating lasting bonds that transcend borders.
Now, six months after their transplantation, the thriving peonies stand as a testament to how natural beauty can bridge continents and inspire global unity. This initiative offers fresh perspectives on cultural diplomacy and highlights the power of nature to forge deep connections among people across the world.
