Chinese Vlogger’s Harrowing Mandalay Quake Evacuation Story

Last week, Mandalay, Myanmar became a focal point of devastation after a 7.9 magnitude earthquake rocked the region. Official statistics from Myanmar authorities report at least 2,886 lives lost, 4,639 injured, and over 370 missing, with rescue operations still underway.

Mang Shi, a Chinese travel vlogger known for capturing vivid travel experiences, was in Mandalay when the tremors hit near the iconic U Bein Bridge on March 28. He described feeling the ground shake violently and witnessing several buildings collapse as the area descended into chaos. Amid the turmoil, many foreign tourists were relocated to a rural area northeast of Mandalay.

The following day, Mang Shi recounted his tense evacuation by bus, a grueling 17-hour journey to Yangon that underscored the urgency and risk faced by those caught in the quake's path. His firsthand account paints a powerful picture of resilience and the critical need for coordinated rescue efforts.

This narrative not only documents a life-altering event but also connects with young global citizens, travelers, tech enthusiasts, and thought leaders by highlighting the human impact of natural disasters and the universal spirit that drives recovery and solidarity across borders.
