Brazilian Experts Slam U.S. 25% Steel Tariffs, Warn of Trade War

In a significant move, U.S. President Donald Trump signed two official proclamations on February 10, imposing a 25 percent tariff on steel and aluminum from all countries, effective March 12. This decision affects the world's largest steel importer, with Canada, Brazil, and Mexico serving as its top three suppliers, according to the U.S. Commerce Department.

Brazilian voices from various industries have voiced their concerns over the new tariffs. Economist Alderir Gutierres highlighted the potential disruption, stating, \"A 25 percent tariff would disrupt a market that has been organized by the World Trade Organization for many years and have a huge impact on Brazil.\"

Lawyer Vinicius da Silva echoed these sentiments, adding, \"I think these tariffs are very bad because it will harm Brazilian exports to the United States. It will create a type of trade war.\"

The imposed tariffs are anticipated to strain U.S.-Brazil trade relations, prompting Brazilian businesses to rethink their export strategies and explore alternative markets to mitigate the adverse effects.
