Vanuatu Shaken by 7.3 Earthquake: 14 Dead, 200 Injured

A powerful magnitude-7.3 earthquake struck the South Pacific archipelago of Vanuatu on Tuesday, leading to widespread devastation across the region.

The U.S. Geological Survey reported that the quake occurred 30 kilometers west of Port Vila, the nation's capital, at a depth of 57 kilometers. The tremor resulted in the tragic loss of at least 14 lives, including two Chinese nationals, as confirmed by Chinese Ambassador to Vanuatu Li Minggang on Wednesday.

In addition to the fatalities, the earthquake caused significant damage to infrastructure, with approximately 200 individuals sustaining injuries and being admitted to the central hospital in Port Vila.

Residents of Vanuatu are now grappling with the aftermath of the disaster, with ongoing efforts to provide relief and support to those affected.
