The BRICS mechanism has fostered economic and trade cooperation, while also enhancing people-to-people exchanges among member countries. In South Africa, the Confucius Institute plays a pivotal role in enabling locals to learn the Chinese language and immerse themselves in Chinese culture.
Muneiwa Magadani, a 25-year-old South African student, is currently in her fourth year of studying traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and acupuncture. Her journey into TCM sparked a deep fascination with its theories and the broader spectrum of Chinese culture.
\"I was pleasantly surprised to see patients who hadn't recovered through other medical methods regain their health through acupuncture, massage, cupping, and traditional Chinese medicine,\" Muneiwa shares. Her studies in TCM have also led her to learn Mandarin, participate in tea ceremonies, and practice Tai Chi, further deepening her appreciation for the richness of Chinese traditions.
\"There are Confucius Institutes in universities across South Africa and many other countries, providing better access to Chinese culture and language. I believe these opportunities are made possible by the BRICS mechanism,\" she explains.
