In northern Gaza, Saber Dawas, a dedicated carpenter, is using his skills to tackle a pressing issue: the lack of footwear among children. Amid escalating conflict and soaring prices, many families struggle to provide even the most basic necessities, leaving children vulnerable and barefoot.
\"As you can see, diseases are rampant here, and the children are barefoot. They could get injured,\" Dawas explained. The conflict has severely restricted access to essential goods, making it difficult for families to afford shoes.
Determined to make a difference, Dawas began crafting wooden shoes. He sources wood from tents and borrows tools from neighbors, turning limited resources into a valuable solution. Initially making shoes for his own family, Dawas now aims to produce them for the broader community.
\"The wooden shoes will at least give children something to wear,\" he said. His initiative not only provides practical footwear but also brings hope and relief to families struggling in these challenging times.
