China celebrates its second National Ecology Day on August 15, focusing on \"promoting the comprehensive green transformation of economic and social development.\" In honor of the occasion, CGTN invited Sir John Key, the former prime minister of New Zealand, to discuss China's progress in green development.
Key shared that his initial understanding of China was limited, with his vision of Asia largely centered on Singapore. His first visit left him with impressions of poorer cities and chaotic traffic. However, over time, he witnessed a remarkable surge in China's development, particularly in infrastructure and urban modernization.
He expressed that China's overall development has surpassed his expectations and lauded the Chinese government's dedication to promoting common prosperity nationwide. During his recent trip, Key visited Linfen in Shanxi Province, a city that has seen tremendous changes. Twelve years ago, Linfen was recognized as one of the most polluted cities globally. Reflecting on the transformation, Key remarked, \"Actually, I would move there. It was really nice, great economy, very green.\"
