Russia and Kazakhstan are grappling with the worst flooding in at least 70 years, triggered by unprecedented snowmelt and dam breaches.
The affected areas include Russia's Ural Mountains, Siberia, and regions of Kazakhstan near the Ural and Tobol rivers, causing widespread disruption and damage.
Aiman Kulumbetova, a resident of the village of Taitobe near Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan, shared with CGTN that the immediate safety of people and homes has been ensured. This is thanks to the government's swift action in deploying sandbags and constructing temporary dams to control the water levels.
Despite these measures, Kulumbetova cautioned, \"If things escalate, we will be put in schools,\" highlighting the potential for further displacement should the flooding worsen.
Rescue teams are actively working to secure vulnerable areas and provide assistance to those affected. The international community is watching closely as both nations mobilize resources to manage this natural disaster and support their citizens.
