Baiyangdian Lake’s Ecological Revival: North China’s Shining Pearl

Located in the Xiongan New Area in Hebei Province, Baiyangdian Lake, affectionately known as the \"Pearl of North China,\" has a rich history dating back to the Northern Song Dynasty. During this period, the imperial court expanded the marshlands, creating a meandering \"Water Great Wall\" that played a crucial role in flood control, climate regulation, and groundwater replenishment.

In April 2017, the establishment of the Xiongan New Area around Baiyangdian Lake marked a significant milestone in environmental preservation. Comprehensive efforts have been made to enhance the lake's surroundings, leading to a remarkable ecological restoration. As a result, Baiyangdian's water quality has improved from Category 5 to Category 3, reflecting the success of these initiatives.

Photographer Zhou Fang's latest documentary captures the enchanting underwater world of Baiyangdian Lake. Through stunning visuals, the film showcases the diverse aquatic life and vibrant plant species, highlighting the extraordinary natural beauty of the Xiongan New Area. This project not only celebrates the lake's ecological achievements but also inspires ongoing efforts toward sustainable development.
