The water level of Baiyangdian Lake has been on a steady decline since the 1950s, leading to dry spells that have forced many residents reliant on the lake to seek livelihoods elsewhere. One such story is that of a family who migrated from Baiyangdian Lake to Wuliangsu Lake in the early 1960s. Xin Liu, the youngest son, although not born in Baiyangdian, followed in his father's footsteps to become a fisherman. For Xin Liu's mother, the greatest wish has always been to return to her hometown. With the recent establishment of the Xiongan New Area, Baiyangdian is witnessing a resurgence in water levels, bringing hope that the family’s dream of returning home is about to be fulfilled.
