Tens of thousands of people from around the world travel to Yiwu City in east China's Zhejiang Province each year to pursue their dreams. This vibrant global hub welcomes individuals of diverse nationalities, languages, beliefs, and cultures, making them integral to the city's social fabric.
A prime example of this multicultural integration is the People's Mediation Committee for Foreign-related Disputes in Yiwu City, the first county-level people's mediation committee for foreign-related disputes in China. Sushil Kumar Agrawal, a foreign mediator with eight years of experience at the committee, shared his insights on how the system operates.
\"Mediation is all about win-win, how to make people come to a common point to renegotiate – this is the art of mediation,\" Agrawal explained. He emphasized the importance of creating mutual understanding and finding common ground among diverse parties.
Agrawal also highlighted the unique characteristics of Chinese governance, noting the collaborative approach that fosters harmony and sustainable solutions within the community. His experiences shed light on the dynamic interplay between local governance and the global citizens who call Yiwu home.
