Brazilian PhD Student Bridges Cultures with ‘Romance of the Three Kingdoms’ Translation

Meet Rud Eric Paixão, a dedicated freelance translator and PhD student from Sao Paulo, Brazil, who is making waves in the world of cross-cultural communication. With degrees in history and Chinese language and literature, Rud found his passion for Chinese culture at a young age.

His journey began when he received a copy of 'Sanguo'—the Portuguese name for \"The Romance of the Three Kingdoms\"—as a gift on his 10th birthday. This gift sparked a lifelong love affair with the classic Chinese novel, leading Rud to embark on a mission to bring this beloved work to Brazilian audiences.

In 2021, Rud started translating \"The Romance of the Three Kingdoms\" into Portuguese, aiming to introduce excellent Chinese literary works to his fellow Brazilians. \"I'm unable to think where I would be now without 'Sanguo,' without China, without Chinese language in my life,\" Rud shares.

Through his translations, Rud hopes to foster deeper cross-cultural exchanges between Brazil and China, bridging the gap between the two nations and enriching the cultural landscape of both countries. His work not only promotes understanding and appreciation of Chinese literature but also exemplifies the power of language to connect people across the globe.
