Philadelphia & Suzhou Orchestras Celebrate 50 Years with ‘Jasmine Flower’

On November 16, the Philadelphia Orchestra celebrated its 50th anniversary of cultural exchange in the Chinese mainland. Collaborating with the Suzhou Symphony Orchestra for the first time in Suzhou, located in east the Chinese mainland's Jiangsu Province, they performed \"Mo Li Hua\" (\"Jasmine Flower\"), a renowned Jiangsu folk melody.

Half a century ago, the Philadelphia Orchestra embarked on an \"ice-breaking journey\" of cultural exchange between the United States and the Chinese mainland, significantly contributing to the normalization of China-U.S. relations.

To mark this special occasion, the Suzhou Symphony Orchestra crafted 21 jasmine flower bracelets within just 24 hours, extending a warm welcome to the Philadelphia Orchestra. The jasmine flower symbolizes their enduring friendship spanning fifty years.

Ryan Fleur, CEO of the Philadelphia Orchestra, emphasized that music has the power to transcend cultures, a sentiment especially vital in today's times.
