The Red Crescent, along with local civil society organizations, held funerals for over 100 Gazans recently returned by Israel. These bodies had been held at Al Shifa Hospital, Gaza's largest medical facility, where Israeli forces had previously conducted a military operation on November 16.
According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA), the Israeli military reported discovering a tunnel shaft used by Hamas within the hospital. This discovery led to the delayed release of the bodies as the Israeli army conducted thorough checks to identify any Hamas members among the deceased.
Once the identification process was completed, Israel returned the remains, allowing the Red Crescent and other civil society groups to arrange and conduct the funerals, providing closure to the families and communities affected by the conflict.
