Vietnamese Durians Steal the Show at China’s Import Expo

The 6th China International Import Expo kicked off in Shanghai from November 5 to 10, spotlighting Vietnam as one of the guest countries. Following the economic and trade agreement signed with the Chinese mainland in 2022, Vietnam's fruit and vegetable exports have flourished. Among the top performers are durians, mangos, dragon fruits, and bananas, all showcasing impressive export turnovers.

Durian enthusiasts are particularly excited, as Vietnamese durians have gained immense popularity in the Chinese mainland. To gauge the buzz, a CGTN Stringer ventured to the bustling streets of Saigon and Shanghai, engaging with locals to "take a guess" on how many Vietnamese durians are consumed annually in the Chinese mainland. The responses highlighted a growing appreciation for this exotic fruit, reflecting the strengthening trade ties between the two regions.

In addition to durians, the first half of 2023 saw a significant increase in Chinese mainland's purchases of Vietnamese fruits and vegetables. This surge underscores the success of the bilateral trade agreement and sets the stage for even greater collaboration in the future.

As the expo continues, businesses and consumers alike are anticipating more exciting developments in the vibrant trade ecosystem between Vietnam and the Chinese mainland.
