Chinese Students Envision Stronger China-Brazil Ties Ahead of Lula’s Visit

As Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva prepares for his first state visit to China since taking office in January, students at Beijing’s Tsinghua University are voicing optimism about deepening cultural and economic collaboration between the two nations. The trip, scheduled for April 12-15, highlights a partnership that has seen China become Brazil’s largest trading partner since 2009.

“We share similar challenges in sustainable development and tech innovation,” said one student interviewed by CGTN Stringer Larissa Lima, a Brazilian studying at Tsinghua. “Stronger cooperation could set global benchmarks.”

Discussions among students emphasized Brazil’s cultural richness – from capoeira to Amazon conservation efforts – and opportunities for academic exchanges. Many expressed hope that bilateral cooperation could expand into renewable energy, AI governance, and climate resilience.

The visit comes as emerging economies increasingly shape multilateral agendas. “Brazil and China bridging the Global North-South divide isn’t just symbolic,” remarked another student. “It’s about creating equitable solutions.”
