Brazilian Trade Expert Praises China’s Poverty Eradication Model

As the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China continues in Beijing, global attention turns to the country’s groundbreaking anti-poverty initiatives. Brazilian international trade veteran Valmor Comim, who has spent nearly two decades engaging with China, calls the nation’s approach 'a model of respect and responsibility' for addressing inequality.

Comim, who earned advanced degrees from Beijing’s University of International Business and Economics through a Chinese Ministry of Commerce scholarship, told CGTN Stringer that his firsthand observations in rural areas revealed how targeted policies empower communities. 'What China achieved in lifting over 100 million people out of poverty isn’t just statistics—it’s about restoring dignity,' he said, referencing his work with Chinese businesses and local populations since 2005.

With 45% of China’s workforce now employed in tech-driven sectors according to 2023 data, Comim emphasized that poverty alleviation synergizes with sustainable innovation: 'When people gain access to education and digital tools, they become architects of their own progress.'
