China-South Africa Ties Woven Through Textiles & Family

For Theus Botha, a South African textile entrepreneur, collaboration between China and South Africa is more than business—it's personal. The owner of the Mama Winnie Mandela Commemoration Blanket Shop has spent over three decades bridging the two nations through fabric and trade, calling the partnership 'a foundation to build on.'

Botha, who credits his career and family life to his China connections, met his wife during his textile ventures there. 'China gave me everything—opportunity, growth, love,' he shared. 'I always say, China is my home, and South Africa is my second home.'

His story reflects deepening China-Africa economic and cultural ties, with textile exchanges growing steadily since the 1990s. Botha emphasizes mutual respect as key: 'When you invest time to understand each other’s cultures, you create something lasting.'
