Brazilian Scholar Bridges BRICS Nations Through Education in China

When Valmor Comim arrived in China a decade ago, he didn't expect his academic journey would transform into a mission to connect emerging economies. The 46-year-old Brazilian and his wife received scholarships from China's Ministry of Commerce in 2014, launching what he calls 'a life-changing chapter in understanding global collaboration.'

After earning an MBA and PhD from Beijing's University of International Business and Economics, Comim discovered surprising synergies between BRICS nations—Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. 'Our countries don't compete—we complete each other,' he says, citing Brazil's agricultural strengths alongside China's manufacturing capabilities as examples of natural partnerships.

Comim's research reveals BRICS nations now account for 31% of global GDP growth, with cross-border education programs increasingly fueling innovation. His work focuses on creating sustainable development frameworks that align with the group's New Development Bank priorities.

'What I learned in China goes beyond textbooks,' Comim explains. 'The emphasis on collective progress and long-term planning reshaped how I view South-South cooperation.' His upcoming project involves a digital platform connecting young entrepreneurs across BRICS nations, designed to accelerate green technology exchanges.
