In honor of the International Day for People with Disabilities, Palestine launched its first national amputee football team in Gaza on December 3. Supported by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), the squad consists of 20 young Palestinians who have lost parts of their bodies due to previous wars or accidents.
The team is training with crutches and prosthetic legs at a stadium in Gaza City, striving to compete in the Amputee Football World Cup next year. A video showcases their dedication and resilience as they prepare for international competition.
Simon Baker, a consultant for the ICRC, expressed enthusiasm about the initiative, highlighting the empowerment and global representation it offers the athletes. One of the team members, Hassan Karim, shared his personal aspirations: \"I have dreams and ambitions, and my goal is to represent Palestine in international forums.\"
