Syria Faces Critical Vaccine Shortage with Just 1% Fully Vaccinated

Syria is grappling with one of the world's lowest COVID-19 vaccination rates, standing at a mere 1-percent as of August 27, according to the Johns Hopkins University Coronavirus Resource Center.

The dire situation has profound implications for the health and wellbeing of Syrian communities. Recently, a CGTN stringer visited residents in the village of Al-Tah and met with a hospital director in Maarat al-Numan, located in northwestern Syria, to discuss the severe consequences of vaccine shortages.

Residents expressed their urgent hope for increased vaccine assistance to combat the spread of the virus and protect their families. The scarcity of vaccines not only heightens the risk of outbreaks but also hampers efforts to rebuild the healthcare infrastructure and restore normalcy in these regions.

The lack of vaccine availability underscores the broader challenges faced by Syria in managing the pandemic, exacerbating existing vulnerabilities and highlighting the critical need for international support and intervention.
