Venezuela Launches COVID-19 Vaccination Drive with Sputnik V

Venezuela has officially begun its immunization program against the COVID-19 virus, marking a significant step in the country's fight against the pandemic.

The Russian-developed Sputnik V vaccine is being distributed first to frontline workers, including members of the police and military, as well as public servants. This prioritization aims to protect those who are essential in maintaining public safety and essential services.

Despite the commencement of the vaccination drive, the majority of Venezuelans will face a prolonged waiting period before they can receive the vaccine. The rollout faces challenges such as limited vaccine supply and logistical hurdles, which could affect the speed and efficiency of the immunization efforts.

Health officials are urging the public to remain patient and comply with health protocols to curb the spread of the virus while working to expand vaccine availability to cover more of the population in the coming months.
