Belgian Ambassador Embraces Yunnan Life, Plants 450 Trees for Local Ecology

After serving as the Belgian Ambassador to China from 2009 to 2013, Patrick Nijs made a life-changing decision to retire early and remain in the country he deeply cherishes. Alongside his wife, a native of Yunnan, they established their home amidst the serene mountain forests of the province.

The couple has been actively involved in the ecological development of Yunnan, planting 450 trees in the local area. Their dedication to environmental sustainability underscores their commitment to the region's natural beauty and future.

\"I took early retirement because I wanted to stay here. My life is reaching the end and I know it'll end in China like fallen leaves return to their roots,\" shared Ambassador Nijs, reflecting on his profound connection to Yunnan.
