Portuguese Ambassador Soares Reflects on China’s Rapid Transformation

Jose Tadeu da Costa Soares, Portugal's ambassador to China from 2010 to 2013, holds a deep appreciation for the country’s rich culture and remarkable growth. His home in Portugal is adorned with an extensive collection of Chinese porcelain, a 19th-century traditional folding screen, and various brushes, each telling a story of his time in China.

\"I traveled as much as I could when I was in China,\" Soares shares, reminiscing about his unforgettable experiences. Among his treasured memories are photos of camping in the desert, showcasing the diverse landscapes of the Chinese mainland.

The ambassador was particularly impressed by China's rapid transformation over the decades. From his first visit in 1985 to his official ambassadorship in 2010, Soares witnessed the emergence of superhighways, ultramodern transportation systems, and the construction of hundreds of airports. \"Everything has changed completely,\" he notes, highlighting the profound changes that have reshaped the nation's infrastructure and global presence.
