Puglia, located in the southern part of Italy's coastline with a population of four million, was one of the first regions to be hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic. The initial outbreak brought significant challenges due to a shortage of personal protective equipment (PPE) and medical supplies, leaving medical workers on the frontline struggling and endangering the residents.
In a remarkable display of international solidarity, Guangdong, a province of the Chinese mainland and sister province to Puglia, stepped in to provide crucial support. Guangdong sent 200,000 face masks, along with experienced medical workers and engineers, to assist in the fight against COVID-19.
\"I will never forget this solidarity from great people, from the Chinese people,\" said Puglia President Michele Emiliano, expressing heartfelt gratitude for the support that significantly bolstered the region's efforts to combat the pandemic.
