Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Vietnam has taken innovative steps to support its underprivileged citizens. As of April 18, 2020, the country reported 268 confirmed cases and no deaths, prompting the government to implement a 15-day nationwide social isolation measure starting April 1.
With many losing their jobs due to the outbreak, a Vietnamese entrepreneur and his team launched the \"Rice ATM\" project to provide essential food to those in need. These rice dispensers are strategically placed in Nghia Tan Ward, Cau Giay District, and at the cultural house in Bac Tu Liem District of Hanoi.
Each rice dispenser can distribute 3-4 tonnes of rice daily, serving approximately 1,000 residents each day with 3kg of rice per person. This initiative not only alleviates hunger but also supports the community during these challenging times.
