Transforming IFEMA: Madrid’s Field Hospital on the Frontlines Against COVID-19

The Institución Ferial de Madrid (IFEMA), commonly known as the Madrid convention center, has been swiftly transformed into a crucial field hospital to treat coronavirus patients. Currently, two exhibition halls are fully occupied with patients, while a third is in the process of being refurbished to accommodate the growing demand.

Leading the operations is Captain Izard of the sappers from the paratrooper brigade. Under his leadership, a dedicated team of around 40 individuals works tirelessly from dawn until dusk, setting up beds, outfitting medical facilities, managing logistics, and ensuring the hospital runs smoothly. With Madrid's hospitals under immense strain, the team at IFEMA plays a vital role in alleviating the pressure.

Despite the challenging circumstances, Captain Izard remains hopeful for an end to the crisis. He expressed his longing to travel to Seville to reunite with his family once the pandemic subsides.
