Mask Shortage in Italy: Prices Soar Amid Rising COVID-19 Cases

The total number of COVID-19 infections in Italy continues to climb, nearing 60,000 cases and over 5,400 deaths. Xiao Ning, a member of the Chinese mainland's expert team assisting in Italy's fight against COVID-19, reported that only 40 percent of people on the street were wearing masks.

Italian journalist Andrea Savorani Neri, who is vlogging his daily life under lockdown, visited several pharmacies in Faenza to purchase masks. He discovered that masks were out of stock in most pharmacies, and staff members were uncertain about when new supplies would arrive. In the few pharmacies that did have masks in stock, prices had surged from two to three euros to 10 euros per mask, turning them into a highly valued commodity.
