Nairobi Buses Boost COVID-19 Safety with Hand Hygiene and Sanitization

In Nairobi, the fight against COVID-19 has taken a proactive turn as passengers increasingly clean their hands before boarding buses. The Health Ministry has emphasized the importance of regular handwashing, especially after handling money, to minimize the virus's transmission. With approximately ninety percent of Kenyans relying on public service vehicles, the sector is urging commuters to transition to mobile money transfer services, reducing the need for hard cash.

Public transport inherently involves close interactions, making protective measures crucial. In response, the government has mandated that all matatus undergo daily cleaning. This includes disinfecting seats both in the morning and at night. Additionally, drivers and conductors are receiving training in prevention measures to ensure a safer journey for all passengers.
