Global Graffiti Artists Bring Spring to Wuhan Amid Lockdown with Sakura Art

Central China's Wuhan City has been under lockdown for almost 50 days due to the COVID-19 outbreak. The usually vibrant city has fallen silent, with residents stuck at home and daily routines disrupted. However, hope blooms as sakura, the iconic cherry blossom, signals the arrival of spring.

In a bid to uplift spirits and showcase resilience, 27KM, an organization dedicated to developing and promoting traditional Chinese street art, launched an online graffiti event. This unique initiative invites artists from around the globe to capture the essence of spring in Wuhan, using sakura as the central theme.

Despite the challenges posed by the lockdown, the collaborative art project serves as a testament to the enduring human spirit and the universal language of art. As sakura blossoms begin to appear, the virtual canvases filled with vibrant graffiti remind everyone that spring—and renewal—are on the horizon.
