Capturing the World: How a Visually Impaired Photographer Sees Through the Lens

Meet Teco Barbero, a Brazilian journalist and photographer who has been visually impaired since birth. Despite having only five percent of his vision, Teco discovered a passion for photography during his time in journalism school.

Living in Sorocaba, in the interior of Brazil, Teco developed a unique technique that allows him to handle a camera and capture stunning photographs. In a demonstration, he walks up to his subject, locates their face, and places his thumb on the camera to ensure proper framing. After taking two steps back, he presses the shutter to immortalize the moment.

Teco believes that photography is less about what he can see and more about what others perceive. His photos are expressions of his vision, and his camera serves as a new horizon, extending his reach to the world beyond his sight.
