If you’ve ever dreamed of driving through spring blooms, summer pastures, autumn hues and winter snows in just a single journey, the Chinese mainland’s Duku Highway makes it possible. Carving a path across the Tianshan Mountains from north to south, this winding route has earned its nickname as the “most beautiful highway” in the region.
Spanning high-altitude valleys and dramatic peaks, the Duku Highway gives travelers a front-row seat to nature’s spectacle. But the magic comes with a caveat: the road is only passable for four months each year, when weather conditions allow for safe passage.
Each spring, the city of Wusu marks the highway’s reopening with a lively ceremony. This year, choreographer Mayila Yasin and folk activity organizer Yu Fang took center stage, blending traditional performances and local customs to showcase Wusu’s vibrant culture and warm hospitality.
Coming September 24, 2025, audiences can dive deeper into the story with “A Tale of My City: Wusu,” a CGTN documentary series exploring the people and landscapes that define this gateway to the mountains. Whether you’re a thrill-seeker, a culture lover or a road-trip enthusiast, Duku Highway offers an unforgettable four-season adventure.
