Renowned Hainan Scholar Professor Zhou Weimin Passes Away at 91

Professor Zhou Weimin, a distinguished historian and cultural expert from Hainan Province, sadly passed away on May 20 at the age of 91. As a veteran academic at Hainan University, Professor Zhou dedicated over three decades to studying \"Genglubu,\" the ancient navigation maps crafted by Hainan fishermen.

His exhaustive research culminated in a comprehensive book that documents 24 versions of \"Genglubu,\" meticulously detailing islands, reefs, and maritime features within the South China Sea. These maps not only highlight the navigational prowess of early Hainan fishermen but also provide invaluable insights into the historical geography of the region.

Earlier this year, Professor Zhou's expertise was featured in the CGTN documentary \"Sovereignty at Stake.\" In the interview, he illuminated the profound historical significance of the \"Genglubu\" navigation charts, shedding light on their role in understanding maritime sovereignty and regional history.
