From Haze to Blue: Hebei Photographer’s Decade-Long Sky Journey

Every morning at 8 a.m., Wang Ruchun, a passionate sky photographer from Shijiazhuang in Hebei Province, sets out to capture the beauty of the day’s first light from his balcony. For nearly ten years, this routine has not only been a personal ritual but also a documented journey of environmental change.

Wang meticulously takes a photograph of the sky each day, followed by checking the local air quality level and pollution index online, which he records alongside his pictures. This consistent effort has provided a decade-long visual and data-driven chronicle of Shijiazhuang's air quality.

As the years have passed, the results are evident. The once frequently hazy skies have cleared, reflecting the city's strides in improving air quality. In celebration of this positive transformation, Wang has decided to rename his photo collection from “Tracking the Haze” to “Tracking the Blue Sky,” symbolizing hope and resilience.

Wang’s dedication not only highlights personal commitment but also serves as an inspiring testament to the power of consistent observation and documentation in the face of environmental challenges.
