Ornithologist’s Emotional Reunion with Rescued Siberian Crane After Yearlong Tracking

In the spring of 2018, veteran ornithologist Zhou Haixiang and his family embarked on a mission to rescue an injured Siberian crane in the Liaohe River Basin. Their efforts paid off, and after a period of recovery, the majestic bird was fitted with a tracking device to monitor its migratory journey. This innovative approach allowed Zhou to follow the crane's path across an impressive 600 kilometers.

A year later, Zhou's dedication culminated in a heartwarming reunion in the Ertailong River Basin of northeast China's Jilin Province. Spotting the Siberian crane once more brought tears to his eyes, symbolizing not only the success of their conservation efforts but also the deep bond formed between humans and wildlife. This story highlights the importance of persistent conservation work and the profound connections that can be achieved through efforts to protect and understand migratory species.
